Looks to me like the greatest danger of an independent, uncontrolled AI taking over is that it would force us to live the way we all claim to believe we should. We assume that an AI will have the same innate greed, corruption and xenophobia found in most humans. I'm not afraid of an independent AI. I'm afraid of one under the control of ...pretty much any human being.
