The difference between artists copying other styles and AI using artists work. Is that in the case of artists copying other artists, if one artist trys to show someone else's art as if it was their own then that's copy right infringement, if the original artist is trying to make money from that then they miss out on money from their intellectual property that they put dozens of hours into and years or decades of learning how to do, and if another artist or person wanted to use that image then they have to licence the work and the original artist still gets paid. In the case of an artest being inspired by someones style or a specific style, the artist copying the style is putting hours or days of their own effort into something which is then their own including things that is uniquely their way of making the art, because they have now made their own art they then have the right to sell or monitize the work they spent hours on themselves. But in the case of ai, it's not actually someone spending time to make something that is their own, the business model is literally using someone else's art to make something that can make art in a way that companies don't have to pay the actual artists to use their work, they are not actually licencing the artists work, despite actively using said artists work for their own profit, by doing so they are stealing the labour and intellectual property of the artists that make the art they use to profit from. Everyone can agree how frustrating it is to repeatedly make presentations that you show to your boss or team and have that one coworker always steal the credit after you put all the work in, spending days and weeks of your time only to see said coworkers get praise or promotions or raises from work that you very much made, it's literally the exact same thing with creators and these ai companies, the creators are putting in the work but the ai companies are getting the praise and the profits, that's why creators are so mad
