The guy making imitation Kim Jung Gi art and making money off a deceased person was a scumbag, but I still have no issue with the concept of AI-generated artwork, just some of the assholes who happen to use it, much like anything in life. Hobbyist artists aren't going to lose out on any commissions because of it, because at the end of the day, AI will never be able to perfectly replicate how a specific artist thinks or approaches different artistic prompts. AI art is mostly going to be used by graphic design industry workers to quickly conceptualise things for their work, instead of outsourcing bored interns who have no interest in making the project the best it can possibly be. In fact, a lot of artists even use AI prompts to quickly conceptualise characters or ideas so that they can then try to tweak them in their own style, or just to generate something and redraw it in their own style. Much like any approach to art, this is just the new age that all the self-entitled, privileged DeviantArt dinosaurs are rallying against because they've realised NFTs weren't a ploy to scam artists and rip off their work, so now they need to find a new target. There are genuine copyright and legal concerns with AI art that I think would make for an interesting discussion, but nobody will be interested in that because it's easier to just slap an ugly "no to AI art" badge on your profile and silence any dissenters. This will be the NFT controversy all over again, where it turns out that hobbyist artists were just pitching a massive fit over pretty much nothing, while artists that actually knew what was up got into minting their own work and making fat stacks off it, I guarantee it lmao
