"What Happened to the News" vid by "Knowing Better" described why I do not trust any news these days. It did it in dec 2016 in relatively objective way. Nothing really strange to me either - in communist times we did not trust the news either - simply out of general principle. You may also call it a common sense. AI just adds additional angle to it also by decreasing the cost of hoaxes but I think news as biased as they now are are hardly the main problem - justice dep is. I claim that because serious political bias of general media is a huge problem and most of journalists in the West have one set of political views that affects their perception of reality and then their reporting too. This is better than conspiracy at least if you have the same view as majority of journalists do. Because of visible bias I stopped reading articles in most of media outlets because I consider this a waste of time. It is often more informative to read comments if at all available. I did read about the excesses on new year's eve 2015/2016 in Cologne/Germany first in comments section of an article claiming how easy going and calm the night was. I do not even blame the newspaper for this. As said it looks like it is not a conspiracy but just plain bias. TE is not free of it either I am afraid, which is why I stopped subscription years ago. I still buy it from time to time and watch videos from time to time too, just to see if something has changed. At some point I noticed that I stopped investigating all that much myself. So the statements here about getting passive about the news whatever they are, is actually true. It is happening to me. Maybe something for TE to consider tho as they are not free of serious bias either - maybe you should start from own backyard? AI is a huge worry, I admit. But the rest of what I just wrote is at least as big if not bigger one problem.
