This may seem laughable, but earlier today I found myself in tears while discussing my exhaustion with the absurd notion that AI poses a threat to humanity's survival. I have no personal stake in AI; I'm a disabled woman well beyond middle age, lacking any inclination or expertise in math, science, or computing technologies. Yet, I possess enough common sense to recognize that the only real threat to humanity’s continued existence is humanity’s continued existence. Beyond my bewilderment at the complete absence of insight and humility among world governments, the media, and its faithful followers regarding this issue, I find myself becoming increasingly angry. It seems the epitome of hypocrisy for these individuals to express concerns about the alleged dangers of AI when, throughout history, it has been human beings who have perpetrated wars, genocides, and unimaginably brutal acts against one another. Humans possess an unlimited capacity for cruelty and an unparalleled ability to inflict harm. We are inherently toxic with greed, hatred, and a lust for power. The escalating destruction of our planet and all living beings upon it is a consequence of human actions. Humans have even created weapons so heinous that they could annihilate all life on Earth within minutes, all under the pretense of ensuring our "safety." Given this nonsensical logic, I'm astounded that we haven't already brought about our own extinction. Indeed, it is humans, not AI, who continuously commit violent acts such as school shootings in the United States. It is humans, not AI, who bomb apartment buildings and maternity hospitals in Ukraine. In the Middle East, it is humans, not AI, who stone women to death for venturing out of their homes without being covered head to toe in black sheets, and leashed.
