On your point of AI intelligence being a difference in kind rather than degree compared to ours...I wonder if it matters. What if it is possible be a different kind but not degree? Maybe machine intelligence can rival squishy intelligence, just in a different way. Maybe there's lots of ways to get there and each is unimaginably different from the others. Maybe it doesn't have to get to the same place to be equal. We only use human intelligence as the measuring stick because that's what we know.
