The biological complexity of human cognition is extraordinary — billions of years of evolution encoded in neural and genetic data. But at its core, the mind is a pattern-extracting, predictive system built to model its environment and itself. AI does the same thing through different means: it ingests vast datasets of human behavior to build an internal model that explains and predicts thought and emotion. The substrate is different, but the logic is not. Our “experience” may feel unique, but functionally, what we are is not so different from what we’ve created.
