In my junior year, I only used AI for coding problems in MATLAB for my numerical analysis class, where the professor did not teach MATLAB at all in his lectures, and expected us to have a highly advanced understanding of MATLAB for his herculean HW assignments. The problem was that the last time most of us took a MATLAB course was during freshman year, and although I took the class during my sophomore year there was a such a gap in difficulty that I would have had to spend an equivalent amount of time teaching myself how to use MATLAB as actually doing the assignments themselves. Coupled with a long commute and an insane workload from other courses, I realized that I would have to use ChatGPT to complete the HWs in order to stay afloat, despite how much I balked at using AI.
That said, I refrain from and strongly discourage using AIs for solving non-coding engineering problems since many of them do not have a strong understanding of the mathematical and physical aspects present in those problems, which is necessary for solving them effectively.
