So we should bet for those who said that we would have fully self-driving cars before 2020? Or those who promised that AGI was just around the corner? I think many people bet against the hype, not against the AI. Now, from the beginning of the term AI; there has been an eternal optimism, actually back in 1970 Marvin Minsky predicted that within three to eight years, AI would achieve the general intelligence of an average human. So, those claims have already been made, and I think the reason is that these folks underestimate the human intelligence, as it is shown in Moravec's Paradox.
