I think the issue is they're all about money. It's finance bros and grifters saying people who draw or paint will be replaced because to them it's a product, something to look at for a second to decide if it's "nice" or not, and maybe to appraise its' value in case they want to buy it in case it might rise in value. A LLM can mass produce hundreds of thousands of images in the time it takes a real person to draw one thing comparable in complexity and can achieve realism only very, very few artists can compete with. Same as how a bottling machine can bottle faster and more consistently than a human, so therefore it's objectively better. After all, drawing is just a job, a tedious time waster people do for money, right? There's no reason to do anything for any other reason, right? They don't understand the idea of self-expression. The worst part is a lot of artists, of all kinds, are encouraging this insane idea, with ideas like "If you're good at something, don't do it for free". We've sold out self-expression and made great strides to truly make it no more than a career path that people pick to make a living. When Ford Coppola blew $120 million of his own money on a film that didn't turn out great, people were very quick to mock him, and one of the most common things to point out is the fact it "only made 15 million". Which yea, is a financial flop, but so was Blade Runner when that came out, it's now considered a timeless masterpiece. I'm not saying Megalopolis is actually a masterpiece everyone needs to watch, but it's worth considering as an art piece made by someone who willingly made himself $120 million poorer just to create it, a project that had bounced around this guy's head for 30 years. Hustle culture is no longer something you choose to participate in, it's just life now and it might end up costing us art itself. At the very least a return to the old days of artists only being the kind of people the establishment likes, a commodity to be bought and sold. But then again, even in that age there was Mozart, dying poor because he refused to sell out, so I suppose there'll always be real art out there. I just hope it won't be drowned out by a flood of synthesized products "made" by large language models.
