With Generative AI, I can definitely say it has SOME place in art. Like the ethical concerns are hard to solve, but possible, especially since some artists train their own private model on their artwork alone and that is to help them create their own art better or create better looking thumbnail sketches to then touch up. But also I feel like for me as a sculptor I see a lot of potential with generative AI where I can use the AI with very odd settings to produce something unknown to me and then try to extrapolate a sculptural idea from it. Ai generated 3D models as of now are also super terrible looking and nowhere near where they can be, but I feel like I could 100% see myself using generative AI to generate ideas rather than finished works. Like I think of using it similar to creating REFERENCE images, nothing to actually directly use in my artwork.
I also remember this woman named Calimara on YouTube have an email discussion with an AI bro and part of what she mentioned is that she thinks it might take the route of textiles and ceramic vessels. The market gets flooded with machine made products that are just made to be functional and nothing else. For example, you pay a dollar at Dollar Tree for a slip casted clear glazed white mug while someone who hand threw a mug on the wheel and glazed it with something special would be more like $40. A random white t-shirt is going to be a lot cheaper than a hand knitted sweater. I think this is a good outlook on this because it means that there will be the cheap slop people can buy if they want art but don't have the money to pay people for it while the actual good art gets money still.
Lastly, I think you also forgot to mention the weird inbreeding that is going on with generative AI. The technology boomed so much in the past couple of years that nowthe same google image results that would produce only human made images is now flooded with AI images. As a result, these same models are now taking those AI generated images and putting them into their training sets. In an attempt to see what this would do to the models, someone deliberately did this with a model where it kept feeding its own results back into it and it eventually lead to complete degradation and inbreeding where all the tiny artifacts slowly got more and more enhanced and noticeable. This means now makers of these generative AI models need to be extra careful on what does and doesn't get included in their training sets, and even if they do remove all clearly AI images, it just means that AI images are going to become so good it's near impossible to keep them out of the training set which is when the degeneration will happen. I like to call it a weird inbreeding effect, but it's just showing how fragile and unstable, ironically so, gen AI and stable diffusion is
