I really get the feeling that this whole AI revolution is companies attempting to justify the spending they already made. Its like hiring a full team of staff blindfolded and then trying to figure out if they have the right skills and talent to do anything useful. Look at the CEO of Cisco UK, who when asked about their internal AI usage provides zero concreate examples of AI use in the company. I bet if you ask the frontline staff how great the platforms are they have to use, they would not be as enthusiastic - they just know they are forced to use them. In my own experience working in a large international managed services, telecoms and IT provider - the spend is huge and the outcome is pretty limited. Data sovereignty issues are a real concern and the platforms I have been told to use barely work properly, the problem being these systems often have to interact with custom platforms which complicate things. I'm more and more convinced that the productivity gains we are currently seeing are far far overstated by corporate heads, trying to justify the money they have already spent. Majority of the workplace improvements I have seen teams deliver are not AI at all, but simple automation.
