You make some pretty good points, but there's 2 things I disagree with: I think the idea of image generation being a new medium is more valid than you're giving it credit for. Here's how I think of it: when you read a book, the author puts words on the page, and your mind turns that into an image. Say I have a character that I want to see, and it's by an obscure author so there's like 1 fan art of the most popular character. I don't have the skill with paper or photoshop to draw what I'm imagining, but I do have the ability to describe it perfectly. (Not with the author's words, with my own) I see ai as a tool that converts my thoughts into an image. That's what a medium is. Like any other medium, it has upsides and downsides. The upside is that image generators are absolute masters of vibes. The downside is the details it fucks up... and all the ethics stuff but anyway! I also think you're underestimating the process of getting an image right. Sometimes I do get it within minutes, but I have a very specific image in my head, and it usually takes me hours of trying in order to get an image that's good enough. This medium *does* have a lower cost of entry. Not with money, but with time and effort. You had to practice for years to get that good (and you are amazing at drawing), but I don't have the time or effort to get that good, life moves too quickly. Image generation is an easy solution, and it doesn't take that long to learn how to use it to produce some great images. For context, I mostly use image generation to make fan content, and it's one of the few issues in life I can absolutely see both sides of. Also who the fuck thinks that ai is better for people with disabilities? There's some great arguments for ai art, but that isn't one of them lol.
