It's fundamentally impossible to control somebody much smarter than you are. And knowing humans, we are guaranteed to create if we can (and we can). And it is impossible to predict with any certainty what will happen. Even if openai would not fire the first shot, the problem would simply be delayed for a few years, but somebody in their garage would go it eventually.
