As an autistic person with low support needs, I see so much myself in this boy. Actively WANTING to escape reality. Be loved and understood and feeling like this world wasn't made for me. Fictional characters are easier to understand than real humans. They're more predictable.
I didn't have chatbots during my teenage years, but it didn't stop me from forming very toxic, codependent "relationships" with fictional characters. I stopped considering any of my needs or real relationships as I daydreamed my days away.
This death didn't necessarily happen BECAUSE of AI. But AI will make things like this so much more common and easier to happen. May he rest in peace ❤
