Andrew needs to get with the times, and be less afraid to be more bold in his persona and his policies. the times of a utopian, pre-COVID, pre-Jan6, pre-Trump2.0, pre-AI-bubble is long gone and he comes off now like a relic from a bygone era...and while i agree with him that the true vision for a foil to Trumpism is one that's positive and solutions-oriented, the most effective embodiment of that now in 2025 is the newly elected, SOCIALIST mayor of New York City Zohran Mamdani.
a guy, mind you, who ran against the same exact establishment _he_ ran against in 2021—the election that split the vote 4 ways and gave us Eric Adams by default—and then actually _won_ and beat by doing a lot of the same tactics like, 'being a relatively normal, younger guy who's refreshingly honest and sincere on and off stage by embracing his outsider status and heterodox opinions'.
what deeply worries me about Andrew is this aversion to embracing any sort of anti-capitalist policies, which has left him this weird shell of a man who isn't bold enough to commit to anything yet wants to be taken seriously about the needs for bold, transformative (unspecified) change.
i will always appreciate him as a person and the spontaneous magic that Yang Gang 2020 was to participate in, but things are already much worse than any of us ever expected and it's telling that he leans on his centrist stance while the country topples rightwards into full-on fascism...i mean, he is seemingly allergic to making sound tactical decisions as a politician, the people in his ear are compromised and also very bad at strategy.
these are the same people who told him he should come out with a pro-Elon endorsement back in April 2025, AFTER all the DOGE stuff and the Tesla commercial at the White House and Trump kicking him out after losing that Wisconsin Supreme Court race lmfao just wow. that is a fool's move, not one of a shrewd leader i want to entrust with the same level of executive branch power as FDR in the '40s. he has a lot of good ideas in his platform, don't get me wrong, but time and time again this guy actively runs away from the left populist base he would need to cultivate in order for his political actions to affect any change at the electoral level. he acts like Chuck Schumer with a goofy ass grin and laugh that doesn't suit the moment anymore; in short, we need to radicalize Andrew Yang. he needs to embrace Medicare For All, embrace Bernie Sanders, apologize to Maya Wiley, cut ties with Michael Bloomberg, and get ready to prove himself by going to bat for Zohran Mamdani since he failed to make that endorsement back in November and once again bricked the easy layup...Andrew, i hope you read this.
