My idea is this: "Art is what we use to externalize and share ideas and feelings inside us." And since feelings and ideas can't be shared via bluetooth brain to brain, everything that distort, in every way, the abstract idea is a loss of fidelity to the idea. The first cause of distortion is the phisical medium (even sound) and its limitations But from this clash interesting patterns and new ideas can arise. This is the artistic process I gonna make an exemple with a painting: If you have a pencil, you are gonna draw something all by yourself. Everything is decided by a human "why is there a dead leaf?" Maybe it just looked good... But someone made the active decision to put that there. If you are drawing in digital (like I do) maybe you use instruments to randomise things or help you with textures... You are giving up a small part of your decision making to an instrument but that's leave a trace of the medium and the process that may add some value or save you time. If you generate an AI image you are giving up the vast majority of your decision making. Mabe the idea is the best one in the world but you never choose a single pixel on that canvas. While you are drowing something you may realize that things are not as you imagined them: "this space is too empty..." And you actively choose how to solve this problem, maybe an istrument can help you, mabe this was an opportunity to make the painting even better. But AI is working against you. it hid and solved the problem without you even noticing it... "Why is there a dead leaf?" The bot decided so. Angel engine may have an AI look, but it's mainly made by a human. Who wrote the story? Who edited it? Who created the characters? Who choose the vibe, the style, the mood of this story? A human. AI CAN be an instrument to help artists. "He could have drown it himself" yes but you need a lot of time to learn. "He could have hired a real artist" yes but that's a lot of money And if he hired a human still the images couldn't have been a direct product of his vision. The thrut is that without AI that guy would have never been able to share his art. And many artists in the future will be able to share their ideas and feelings with the help of a machine to complement what they are unable to do in their conditions (lack of time, money, other instruments...). AI can really make art more excessible but not in the way tech bros usually mean it.
