Part of the issue is that the term sentient is very poorly defined. How can one define something as sentient when there is no scientific consensus on what constitutes sentience? In any case, I think the evidence he presents for sentience, whatever that is, is weak. It seems far more likely that other species are sentient (e.g. chimpanzees, Orangutans, etc.) than is Google's AI.
