Be extremely careful with this assessment. Open AI has stepped in to do the Pentagon’s bidding. Anthropic is being viciously punished. Open AI and the Pentagon claim the guardrails are in place—over mass surveillance and autonomous warfare. But, but, but…, look at the Canadian government’s calling of Open AI to task (and to multiple meetings) because they failed (even after 12 of their own employees requested it) the informing of the Canadian RCMP about the dangers of a subscriber who eventually committed many fatalities of children. The Canadian government is still far from satisfied with both Open AI’s past position and their current attempts to remedy the situation. Bottom line: Altman got the contract because he will give the Pentagon what it wants.
