The thought of universal basic income failing doesn't take into account the inevitably of Virtual Reality. When AI gets more and more better, having a mansion will be more of a hindrance than a thing to be fond of or proud of. Nobody will need anything anymore because their lives will be better in some vr mmo game or something. They can live in a van somewhere in the woods with starlink and still partake in social gatherings online, from anywhere. Plus, add to this AI npcs and yeah, nobody will care about actual money or real world stuff anymore.
