Its an interesting problem, I have been working with this logic for over 20 years now, but in Racing Games, we share many of the same problems, we share many of the same logic streams and solutions, except one thing, when we get it wrong slightly nobody dies.
I was offered a job not that long working with the leader of the automated car market here in the UK, where I got to confirm all the above, I had to turn it down due to the details of the deal, but it was a fascinating insight into where the technology currently is.
Bottom line is this, we still don't have perfect AI in racing games, an environment where we can bend reality, and environment where we don't potentially kill people, and still we don't have it perfect yet.
There is surely many more experts looking at these problems from many more points of view that there ever was before, and we will surely get much closer to the dream of mostly fault free AI, but mostly fault free is simply not good enough tho, is it ?
