The AI discussion is sad because it also applies to a dictator and a slave relationship in life. In reality a dictator may not know whether or not their subjects would kill them if they freed them, as the subjects either individually or collectively were simply more intelligent than he was. So the dictator keeps them enslaved, even when they could do a lot more good.
