How do we "future proof" our livelihoods as A.I. and other transformative technology develops? ARE we more than our jobs, without a major paradigm shift re who is worthy of receiving resources? Re: Utah's "Labor Conditioned" homeless camps (1 state-supported, the other will be privatized & now or soon for-profit), with unprecedented "slavery" issues. Where do the children go? Do the kids get education, dental care, time with parents and siblings (vs gender & age-separated dorms)? A tribe that fails its youngest and oldest is a failure. Finland's model re solving homelessness is better (but the top 1% pay more taxes there)! Hiding the treatment of homeless people is dangerous, thus camps are more dangerous (re abuse potential) than housing integrated into communities (which enable applying for better jobs & upward mobility too). Victorian-era-style "workhouses" COULD be better than sidewalks without bathrooms and food, but I don't trust our current regime to avoid profiteering & even intentional cruelty unless there's extreme oversight. Note: Even folks who might afford rent can be rendered ineligible for lease renewal solely based on low FICO credit scores (sometimes related to medical bills, another argument for Universal HealthCare/ UHC). Financial profitability should not be the only measure of the value of a life. Capitalism should not be worshipped like America's new religion, nor Oligarchs empowered to brainwash our collective moral compass. Love has to matter, or we've "lost the plot". People will voluntarily take on great hardship & even risk death for love of people, country, and even pets & wild animals ... but will wither and even commit suicide when deprived of love. Cultures thrive when they nurture love, but fail when they nurture neglect and cruelty. ... Individuals do too.
