It's not constant surveillance violating anyones privacy, when you're in PUBLIC. There are no recorded instances of anyone being specifically targeted through their license plate number, without the collusion of a state official in the DMV with access to the records failing their position and releasing information. People are arguing privacy concerns when the ones leading the argument with funds are doing so to maintain the massive lack of accountability in traffic safety violations because a genuine lack of care for the general publics safety. The same people arguing LPN privacy, are the same people that will break several traffic laws, put multiple lives at risk, simply to get 3 cars ahead of which they then force to slow down because they knew their turn was right up ahead but these people don't care about anyones safety, they just don't want to be held accountable. If you're for some reason targeted out while driving, it's 100000% easier to say, just, follow you home? Put a tracker on your car? Then it would be to find a DMV official willing to provide information, IF, your information isn't already out there and searchable and provided by YOU. Sure, when the surveillance is targeting lower class individuals and no surveillance is put on upper class areas, yes, that's abuse. But, when tests of legitimate uses of these security cameras are performed, like in Oahu, they registered 30,000+ traffic safety law violations in 30 days, when the number of yearly incidents caught and ticketed by police is less than 20,000. That's over 300,000 ticketable offenses, and therefore 300,000 tickets worth of state revenue, that is being left off of table. Wouldn't it be amazing if vehicle deaths became a rarity? Wouldn't it be awesome knowing that the #1 lethal act performed in their line of duty, traffic stops, wasn't necessary anymore? Allowing the constant need for police focus to be on traffic monitoring instead of actual police work is an issue. Literally though, there is no evidential proof for the argument that people deserve privacy while operating a dangerous machine in everyone else's public.. We don't even need plates anymore, they could easily introduce registration chips to remove the visible numbers and police could remotely scan. But that's not the argument is it? Because, you're not arguing for public safety. You're arguing for maintaining the unaccountability you enjoy in knowing you can get away with speeding and breaking other safety laws, because there's a 95% chance you'll get away with it. So, how many people are operating lethal heavy machinery with the mindset that negates all potential of you causing an accident that effects others due to an overconfidence in your abilities with a general lack of concern for the safety of those around them?. It's people that cannot think to signal to others before quickly merging so as to not miss your exit that are also incapable of critical thought that can properly assess the risk you just created for everyone around because all you can consider is you. If you're a driver where "everyone is in your way" and so make excessive lane changes in and out of traffic, if "people drive too slow" even though they're obeying speed limit laws and are simply in the way of you being able to break the law, or considers yourself a more proficient driver that can operate in the manner you do, even though you only have the exact same driving certification that people with Down syndrome can get, you're a genuine part of why we need automated traffic ticketing systems and more than likely can only argue for negating public safety and accountability for a privacy on something you've never been at risk of being targeted by... You're just repeating a claim with no confounding cases to prove the necessity. There are only a litany of cases where people are concerned about someone taking a picture of their license plate (which, lets be honest, only happens when you make someones life and safety insignificant by how you were driving) but no actual cases where anyone successfully used a picture of a plate to track anyone down, that didn't have special access to do so. So why isn't the argument about these government organizations storage and use of information??? BECAUSE THIS ARGUMENT IS ONLY BY PEOPLE AFRAID OF BEING HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR BEHAVIOR WHERE LAWS ARE IN PLACE FOR EVERYONES SAFETY, BUT YOU BEHAVE AS THOUGH ITS AN ATTACK AGAINST YOU AND YOUR RIGHTS, WHILE TRYING TO ENSURE YOU CAN SAFELY ATTACK THE PUBLICS RIGHT TO BE SAFE FROM PEOPLE LIKE YOU.
