Employees sign on now for 40 hour work weeks but end up with 60 - 80 hour work weeks, often doing the work of multiple employees for a single employees wage. If the government was going to make a law to help those employees, it would have to be that all overtime must be voluntary and not mandatory. Attempting to think about the end goal of capitalism is challenging, where often the goal seems to be more, more, more. Human resources have always been necessary and AI could potentially eliminate that need if combined with robotics. As it is today, people look for ways to build economies, where creating a light bulb or automobile that never breaks would be bad for that model. We need the sick for the medical field so they help maintain sickness rather than eliminate it. If nothing caught fire, no firemen. If everyone was honest, not justice system. Politicians create problems because that creates cash flow. You even have humans who just want to control other humans for the sake of power. Certainly I can see some potential advantages for the poor with AI. Because labor is always a fraction of the total cost of doing business, the lowest wage earners can never afford an hour's worth of their own labor, thus cannot earn a living wage if the U.S. was self contained as an economy. The only way the poor get somewhat of a break is being able to purchase from another country who pays lower wages. Because labor can be very expensive in the U.S. market, AI could potentially be that cheap labor to lower prices on goods and services. If this happens, minimum wage could potentially be a livable wage. When I see creative people online, it is usually with the intent to make money. In my daily life, I am surprised at how many people aren't creative and lack the most basic skills. I have no idea how the world would look if people didn't have to work other than creative people would have more time to create, but what would the non-creative, skill lacking people do?
