I would say the job of cashier is much harder for a machine to do than many jobs humans find exceedingly difficult...like chess master or go master. The more bounded the state and action spaces associated with a problem are, the easier it is for AI to to work with...which isn't the case for humans once combinatorial complexity really begins to kick in.
