I think you've voiced a valid, balanced view of the situation - cheers! AI at this stage isn't capable of drawing just inspiration from an artwork (i.e Color from one, composition from another etc) It seems actual pixels are copied and pasted, and then modified. We need to look inside the source code to see if this process is happening.
