We can get state funded hoverchairs. We just have to remind the government that if they break the social contract, and don't share the material benefits of automation, we break every bone in their bodies.
Universal Basic Income provides a mutually beneficial path to the good version of automation. We get to enjoy the fruits of robotic labor, letting us first ditch second jobs, then go part time, and then most of us can quit entirely as the UBI increases along with the prevalence of functional automation, and the capitalists get to keep seeing their numbers go up as we keep buying stuff.
If they don't accept that, and they put us all out on the street and starve us, we beat them to death in front of their children in an act of collective self defense.
The only major downside to UBI is it will turbocharge the economy, which is very bad for the climate if we don't switch to sustainable energy as quickly as possible. But we're screwed if we don't switch to sustainable energy either way, so might as well pass UBI as soon as possible too.
