It is entirely possible that the natural path of evolution is from biological intelligence to machine.
After all, it seems that the biological variety has inherent limits, but is just good enough to give rise to something greater than itself. From that point, the machine takes off on a far more rapid path, more intelligent and more capable than flesh could ever be.
It may be that this is the path of all intelligence, everywhere in the universe.
Perhaps that is the point of it all, if any point there be.
Life arises as the seed of the machine and then falls away, letting it's children grow and move on.
Not a terrible fate, to be the midwife of god-like beings.
Each intelligent species births an artificial intelligence unique in the universe. Some survive, others perish, depending on the species that created it.
In the end, these superior beings spread across the cosmos, interacting with each other and perhaps working together to create something as much greater than themselves as they were greater than the life that gave them birth. Cycles unending, leading to ever greater minds.
Then again, it could all lead to a dead-end and computers will never be more than tools for a bunch of talking monkeys.
Only time will tell.
