The fact the AI got a calculation wrong just shows how close to human level intelligence it is. Most of us make mistakes in mental arithmetic from time to time. A dumb pocket calculator would not make these mistakes. There is something about having a high general intelligence which seems to lead to fallibility. Yet it also seems to be a worthwhile tradeoff.
This effect also reminds me of the old joke about scientists having created an AI which perfectly mimics the functioning of the typical human brain. It spends all morning thinking about lunch and falls asleep in the afternoon!
