As an artists who has obviously been inspired by and learned from other artists my firm belief is that these AIs are currently simply theft. I had to train my visual memory for almost two decades to be able to create a piece of artwork on a piece of a napkin if needed. With every stroke I make a decision. AI users could not create anything from scratch. They let a computer make all decisions for them. They build entirely on what other people have already created, most of the time without giving credit, while an enormous amount of job opportunities for those of us who put in the work get destroyed. Don't get me wrong, I don't think we can stop AI, in fact I think it is a natural evolution that eventually all jobs will get automated. What I don't like is that the work that all of this is based on is not being credited, let alone us getting any money for our artworks being used. That people who spent two months learning how to get cool results from prompts argue with me how my two decades of experience are worth nothing because I was apparently born "gifted" and so they deserve the shortcut.
