If only ShitGPT was as willing to oppose nonsense in general! It has clearly been instructed to push back against some of the more widespread conspiracy theories that only a tiny fringe believes in, but it does not do so in general, in areas where a lot of people believe stupid things. Nowhere is this more clear than if you talk to it about religious beliefs that stand on every bit as weak foundations as Santa Claus, the toothfairy, or indeed that the earth is flat. But while we think it's hilarious to watch idiotic flat earthers, calling out religious insanity is considered rude and "unnecessary" by most people, even most who don't share the beliefs and realize just how incredibly silly they really are - for no other reason, that I can see, than a lot of people hold these beliefs dear. In fact, widespread insanity that purports to provide a guide to how you should live your life is FAR more consequential than some tiny fringe belief the planet we live on is flat, and therefore much more important to oppose and push back against. But AI adoption would of course be a lot harder if chatbots were constantly telling people things they don't want to hear and things they refuse to listen to - like Dave in his chats here - so it makes commercial sense to cherrypick a few subjects where the sycophantic attitude employed by default should be abandoned...
