This is by far the best reporting about self driving vehicles I've seen. At best I think they will relocate parking out of the city core.
The other challenge no-one seems to talk about is the idea of "shared" robo-taxis doesn't really work with commuting. It's a classic supply and demand problem. If everyone is trying to get to work at the same time, you need just as many cars as we have today. Maybe even more since people that currently take mass transit may opt for a more peaceful commute in a private space. I know I'd be fine if a self driving taxi took a bit longer than mass transit because I could do whatever I wanted on the drive. I could actually start work reading and responding to email with enough room to work and not having to worry about the person next to me snooping. With confidential work I was actually prohibited from doing it in public spaces. And if nothing else, I can just relax and arrive at my destination in a much better mood than if I just dealt with driving in traffic for 45 minutes. Right now I need an hour to decompress after I arrive home.
