In the design world, pay was always the issue, especially since you can work with everyone, so why should I hire you when I can hire some guy from India who can work on a project for $5 and live off of that for the entire month? However, until great businesses decide to ditch paper, carton, aluminium cans, plastic bottles etc, there will always be a need for a graphic designer to lay out the artwork on dielines and send it to print.
On the other hand, if you can implement AI into your workflow, your value would increase.
