Autopilot (which is like enhanced cruise control) and Full Self Drive (Supervised) are both not autonomous. The manual and instructions clearly state the driver needs to pay attention. Every time you engage it a message appears to say basically “pay attention.”
Yes, it’s tragic what happened - but you’re supposed to be paying attention. A family friend died of the same thing while not in a Tesla, but on a motorcycle - same situation but obviously no software in the equation.
This software still requires the driver to pay attention and it’s clearly in the manual and videos.
