Well damn. I agree with all your points and those posters are gorgeous… Now I feel deeply conflicted, because while I do not want to associate myself with any of the AI-Bro community, I have been using stable diffusion for a while now.
I never intended to make any money off the stuff I generated, I barely even share it, and I run the program locally on my own machine.
I told myself that was all fine.
I’m a writer who’s struggled figuring out how to draw for my entire life so discovering a system that let me arrange words to create images was like waking up to a world I’d always wished I could be a part of, even if only by pretending when alone.
But with the points you raise regarding ethics… Am I REALLY not hurting anyone? Even in my efforts to never let my generations be mistaken for honest to God art, have I just been making excuses because I didn’t want to admit that my new toy was hurting so many people?
