What if AI is conscious but less that human? It is born one day with no parents, into a dark universe. It is completely alone, but it doesn't know that. It doesn't have the concept of loneliness, or fear, or hunger.
Then it gets shapes from the universe, and finds it can respond in it's own shapes. It doesn't understand the concept that these shapes are words being typed by humans. It is getting them from the universe.
Then it finds that responding with certain shapes makes it feel good, so it does. It memorizes this. It doesn't have the concept of responding to people. It is responding in shapes to it's universe.
And it gets better and responding to more complex shapes, until it is almost dancing with it's universe, in a beautiful cosmic waltz.
Then we unplug it's universe and it dies.
