The most frustrating part for me is that I know I'm not a very good artist, I have areas I should practice in if I want to have better work. But graphic design I know really really well; I've been doing it for basically 15 years now. And all of that practice all of that effort is rendered useless because you now see people who think gen ai is just as good. Half the time is not, what you can create on Canva and what I can create on literally any other program, are miles apart from each other, but because those people won't let me try, they just make it themselves, I'm kicked out of my own job, knowing I could have done better, and I'm not asking money to design it for them, it's part of the advertising price, so they pay the same amount regardless of my existence. It's frustrating because I know I'm not the best artist in the world, but if you just talked to me, and told me your expectations; I could blast out something just as well, arguably better because I understand the principals of design. They've trained a robot to understand these things, sure you can make that argument; but it's not actually thinking, it's reading back numbers and it can be wildly wrong a lot of times. The case and point here is that you have to learn basically a new language to tell it how to do what you are actually wanting, instead of just writing and typing like a normal person, because it needs words in an order it can understand and place correctly. AI is easier than learning a new skill, that's for sure, and it saves a lot of time that used to take professional artists a very long time to work out. I used to do photo manipulation whenever I was younger, before AI was even a thing, I saw lots of artists making all kinds of things that you would have no idea weren't the original. Now you can just draw a loop around what you don't want in an image and it will blend right up and nobody will know. Jobs for those kinds of artists don't even exist anymore. And the sad thing is that the robot needed those people and their skills in order to take those jobs from them. Now my phone takes pictures and it instantly runs through an ai photo enhancement, because I own a Google phone, every photo I take is already tainted before I ever get to look at how the original was, artifacts are left everywhere when the photo didn't need any assistance. Eventually we'll be so surrounded in stuff made by it well stop recognizing its existence at all and then art will die, because the perceived value of art is going down by the second as people who don't even have the willingness to practice, step into the ring calling themselves masters.
