First, inherent “talent” does exist, but it’s only having a slightly easier time understanding things like the principles of design/composition & color theory, etc. these things can be learned & the reason they are universal art fundamentals is because they are universal principles of visual psychology. Second, technical skill does not guarantee success as an artist. Some of the most technically “gifted” people have the hardest time in art school & the least amount of professional success. Third, if someone is better at something than another person, DEFINITIONALLY that makes them better than the other person at that thing. That is not a systemic issue. I am not oppressed because I am not as good at basketball as LeBron. It is not LeBron’s fault that I don’t play for the NBA, I just suck at basketball. And no, being bad at basketball does not make me a worse person than LeBron. I just suck at basketball (which is also not a disability, btw). We also, culturally, don’t respect people who do steroids, etc, to “even the playing field” in sports, & we all culturally understand why. People like that don’t need AI to feel better about themselves, they need therapy to address whatever it is that makes them externalize the blame for something that is largely, but not solely, based on individual effort. Especially if it’s art—you don’t even have to be that technically good to be a valid, important, & successful artist.
