The reasons AI tech bros are afraid of regulations are 2-fold: 1) fear of loading money, and 2) fear of global dominance by another country. However, Dr. Russell made it clear how the risk is simply too high focus only on the profit side, and the kind of regulations we need are not unilateral — they are global. It requires a joint plan with all countries participating and strong monitoring and disincentives put in place.
