More speculation. The saturation of "what if" is a p. big tell. Again, the limits of AI - which has reached a plateau for the time being - are far more apparent than any direct threat they pose - which they won't be capable of utilizing unless a large group of people develop a way for it to access said threat methods.
Narratives like this are the opposite end of the spectrum across from people who fall in love with chat matrices. On one end you have helplessly lonely people engrossed in an illusion, and on the other you have fearmongering and alarmism with analogies that aren't anywhere near as significant as anyone thinks they are.
As with everything, there's a middle ground where yes, AI will cause major, paradigm-defining changes - just like the advent of the internet - but will eventually settle into equilibrium just like every other major emergent innovation.
