AI companies are not obsessed with replacing software engineers, but other companies will invest in AI companies if they claim to be able to replace workers of any kind. As soon as you realize that the corporation is a legal construct for a heartless, greedy, sociopathic entity, that this entity is capable of accumulating massive amounts of wealth, that our economy is built to be steered by wealth, this all makes sense. The tail is wagging the dog here, and corporations reward AI startups which offer to replace workers, thereby cutting labor costs and increasing profits to be hoarded in the market and in the pockets of executives.
