Hello! throwing in my 2 cents on the disabled artist help here!
When I was younger I was working on art as a hobby, never a career idea. It was something I enjoyed doing and I always hoped to be able to do things like draw mine and my friends D&D characters. I was developing the skills over time, and was excited to keep going. Then I developed Essential tremor in my dominant hand and any chance of me being able to create art a traditional way was lost (It was to the point that if it hit my entire arm would spasm and I'd be unable to even hold onto something, let along draw.)
When AI art first started getting big I was actually excited. I saw this as a way for me to return to art as a hobby and still create after I had been unable to for 10+ years. I listened to some of the creators I followed at the time and their arguments for AI art seemed to make sense to me at the time, I even voiced up once or twice how it would help me exactly as the comment said, by allowing disabled people to create art again. I stood and spoke about it being the 'Next thing just like digital art' and how 'People needed to learn to accept it and move on to using it to help their art rather than fight it.' I admit I even used it a few time to create various images for the campaigns that I run from characters to landscapes.
Then I started expanding the people I listened to, learning more about the horrors of AI art stealing from real artists, the consequences of its use and my position changed completely. I realised the creators that I had been listening to before were all coming at it from one side and ignoring the realities of both the damage and the problems that AI art created. Now I could never endorse the use of AI art, and after learning more from other disabled artists on the methods they use, I can't even agree it would be useful for people like us, as we have so many other ways to use true human creativity to create instead. There are people out there who don't even have arms that create better pieces of art that the slop that AI creates. There is little to no acceptable reason for anyone to use AI to create when humanity has created art with whatever we have had to hand since we were drawing on cave walls with crushed berries.
The only possible use I could see for AI is if an artist trained one entirely on their own art and then used to to generate a random grab bag of potential ideas for inspiration that they then redraw from scratch, but there are so many other ways to gain inspiration in the world that if you're resorting to AI generation then there is something wrong with you.
