He's making a false-distinction to claim AI isn't "AI". Don't believe that narrative. He's just falling into the typical moving-of-the-bar that "experts" always fall into, whenever AI shows new abilities. Shifting the definition to mere "pattern recognition", is meaningless and not accurate to explain the emergent behaviors and understanding we're beginning to see. Plus when it comes down to it, that's what OUR brains are doing too. So IMO it's just a disingenuous over-simplification.
