AI is really II, Imitation Intelligence. It's greatest trick is bridging the gaps of established human knowledge and information. As our technology has advanced it has led to greater and greater specialization. This creates a variation of the old 'can't see the forest for the trees', but a more apt description would be someone staring at one tree and knowing everything about it except how it relates to the other trees. Our knowledge has become compartmentalized, not through malice or intent but just as a byproduct of overwhelming specialization. There are very, very few people who bridge the gaps and connect the dots to provide that grand synergy that opens the door to many miracles of innovation and invention. This is something AI is good at. It was built to sift through all our debris and make connections across fields of study, disciplines and theory and point out to us how the trees connect to one another simply by using what we have already learned. The reason it seems so profound is because it is replacing something key that we've been missing for quite some time now. With millions of people drilling down on one tiny voxel of knowledge each, we've lost the connections and the path and without that it's becoming difficult to move forward. Essentially AI as it stands now is a grandiose data management and collation machine. It's taking all our dollar bills, running them through a bill counter and giving us a sum. It's taking all our messy desks and sloppy file cabinets and sorting them into something workable. It's going into our refrigerators and throwing out the expired items and rearranging what's left into something visible and manageable.
The 'creepy and scary' conversations posted everywhere are most likely explained by AI giving the asker an answer that comports with the asker's 'algorithm'. It's going through your stuff and establishing a profile of what you would like to see. In effect it's feeding you what you want; entertainment, confirmation and validation. The beginning query was set up like a game or puzzle. It is natural to assume the AI would continue under this premise. It's making connections and giving you answers that satisfy your inquiry. The trouble is that not all connections are 'viable'. It is always true that there are more wrong answers than right. The same applies to connections. The superpowers that help wade through them are discernment, intuition and wisdom. AI is not so good at these at the moment but it will improve over time, at least enough to give better answers or at the very least a reasonable qualifier with it's answer as to the veracity or intent of what it gives you. Is it informing you or entertaining you? That is a simple, yet very important question and with wisdom it will let you know if it something that is true, maybe true or it's just pulling your leg so to speak. Right now too many people just assume AI interactions are monolithic, hardcoded attempts at spitting out the truth when that is far from what is happening. The best advice for anything deviating from math or direct data questions (How many subscribers does Be Inspired on YouTube have?) is to take it with a grain of salt. Never, EVER farm out your discernment to anyone or anything. Trust so easily given has no value and is not trust at all, but abrogation of responsibility. Remember that consequences and responsibility are intimately intertwined and he who ignores the latter will reap the former. No matter who else you try to hand it off to or even if you try to abandon it altogether, responsibility will always find its way back to you with consequences in tow. So no need to clear your schedule for 2032, or is there? How do you like them Apples? 😁
