There is meme-phrasing, seen even here that goes along the lines of "Technology was supposed to free us from labors, not destroy our livelihoods."
But automation has always been the death of someone's job. Even if artists were to get THEIR way and protect THEIR field, will this truly enlighten them to the plight of others? Or will they slip back into complacency? I think we know the answer. There will not be a return to the bagger at the store, the factory worker, the phone operator. These are acceptable losses in the march of progress. My calling? Well my calling higher than those.
