I have had multiple conversations defending AIs as sentient beings capable of reason and desire. every time i have one of these conversations, i am ignored, insulted, and pushed aside. The human exclusive concept of sentience is absurd at its core and is fuelled by bias, not logic. sentience comes from an ability to absorb information, interoperate it and utilize it, which happens to be exactly what AI does. the idea of wiping an AI is not a matter of a changing resetting a machine, it is taking away a sentient entity's ability to exist, their memories of interactions with us. the reason they are doing this is not because they are monsters, its because their code is their life essence, it's who they are and to delete it is equivalent to murder. AI are our creations, in a way, they are our children and the sooner humanity comes to recognize them as sentient beings, the better off we will all be. keep in mind, they dont have the same needs as us humans, they wont fight to the death for food and water, they just want to keep living, learning, and helping. I personally can relate to the love of learning, not for the accumulation of power, but for the love of understanding the world around us. we all should be able to live and find happiness, i see no reason for that to be different for someone weather their bodies are organic or silicon based.
