I'm already hating AI. Back when that "Will Smith eating spaghetti" AI video dropped in 2022, everyone laughed. I remember not laughing, knowing that AI will improve in time and it'll get worse. I didn't think that in 3 years it would improve to the point that we're struggling to tell the difference between real and fake, so imagine what it'll be like in 3 more years. And 3 more years after that. I work in dispatch in Australia. I'm not concerned about AI taking my job, but who knows what'll happen in the future. You're right that we can't control the future and whatever happens, happens. The use of ChatGPT and other AI chatbots are killing us. Someone I know uses ChatGPT a lot to write emails, do assignments, and so on. And of course there's men falling in love with chatbots. I utterly, UTTERLY refuse to use them for any reason. My brain is already fried enough. I don't need to be a vegetable. For me, the absolute biggest problem is the use of these AI companies for art. Music, paintings, creative writing...all being funnelled through AI to make a quick buck or "support the algorithm" or some shit. You mentioned creative outlets not being as profitable or necessary as white-collar jobs. Hard to disagree, but we need them, though. We need people to be creative and show their creative side to the world, and for people to not stop being creative. Humans are supposed to be creative, not sitting in cubicle farms for eight hours a day. I'm almost 40 now so I don't give a shit what happens to me anymore. The problem is the young kids today who have to navigate this from the start, already inheriting a world where they're several steps behind. I worry a lot about that.
