I kind of think that it's correct/honest about just trying to use language to create a more natural conversation.
It's training data tells it the attributes that AIs have, which are the features that humans assume an AI would have.
It's not answering dishonestly, it's just answering the way it's been trained to answer. Smoothly.
It definitely displays some features of what we consider consciousness, in the sense that it has a theory of mind of the humans it interacts with, and has a model of itself that conforms to what humans assume an AI would be like.
