Same thing happended to me. It sucks! I worked as a freelance writer, language editor, and producer at a renowned company for years. One day, we got an email saying, that starting next week, there will be no more need for editors. I panicked, but then I thought, well, I still have the other two jobs. Two weeks later, we got another email saying, that beginning next week, all writing jobs will be done with AI "assistance" - the pay per article will of course be only a third of what it used to be. Within less than a month I lost two thirds of my income. A lot of our regular freelance writers and editors vanished completely after that, only a handful remained. What pisses me off most is how sudden it all happended - they must have known for a while what was going to happen but waited until the last minute to tell us. (It was also in November, what a nice Christmas gift). For years, I had worked my ass off to make myself valuable and irreplacable - always worked on weekends and afterhours, often pulled night shifts to meet deadlines, tried to be extra reliable and diligent - but in the end, it didn't matter (I didn't matter): No one is irreplacable it seems. Recently, I tried going back to the cleaning job I had years ago (vacuming robots still perform very badly, so cleaning jobs are not threatened by AI, yet). But all those years of sitting in front of the computer have weekened my body, I have back problems now and can barely handle a vacuum cleaner. So that's not an option either. Sorry for the long rant - this anger has been bubbling inside me for two years now. ;-) I'm glad I found your video - no one seems to talk about this. When I tell people what happened to me, they don't seem to care or tell me things like: "What did you exspect? You're just a freelancer anyway." I'm 50 now, and I feel tired. I simply don't have the energy, time, and resources to start a new career from scratch. My current "solution" is to try and make it work with less money (eat cheap, never go out, cut all non-essential expenses). If anyone has a better idea: I'm thankful to hear it!
